2021-22 Positive Impact Grant Awardees

SCEF’s Positive Impact Grant Program was a huge success!  It was challenging to pick from the many creative proposals that were submitted.  With a focus on proposals that have a direct and positive impact on Santa Cruz City School TK-12 students in the areas of literacy, computer science and music we were able to support programs and projects at the following schools:  Bay View Elementary School, Gault Elementary School, Branciforte Middle School, Westlake Elementary School, Harbor High School, Soquel High School, Mission Hill Middle School,and Branciforte Small Schools.  

The following is a list of awardees:

  • $315 to Shannon Tracy Greene of the Harbor High School library to purchase books for The Project LIT Book Club.
  • $500 to Jolene Kemos of the Branciforte Small Schools library to purchase books from The Project Lit Collection.
  • $500 to Anne Cappiello of Harbor High School to expand a classroom library for the Free Voluntary Reading (FVR) Program
  • $500 to Maia Fernandez of the Gault After School Academy to implement a monthly CS/Engineering Design Day during the after school program.
  • $500 to Danielle Brown of Mission Hill Middle School to bring Daniel Barash from the Kennedy Center to 6th grade ELA classroom to introduce and guide narrative script writing, and performing through shadow puppets.
  • $500 to Isabelle Tuncer of Gault Elementary School to buy repair kits and missing parts of Orff instruments for El Sistema.
  • $500 to Jessica Brooks of Branciforte Middle School library to purchase books from The Project Lit Collection.
  • $500 to Megan Tsuchiguchi of Westlake Elementary School to purchase leveled reading books for her classroom’s Book Bag Program..
  • $1000 to Angela Gates of Soquel High School library to expand the collection of graphica.
  • $1000 to Martha Miller & Kate Pavao for the Birthday Books From Coco program at Gault Elementary School.
  • $1000 to Donna Geffken of Bay View Elementary After School Academy for Lego Robotics and Reading Counts.
  • $1000 to Melissa Schilling of Mission Hill Middle School for printing "Call to Action" signs for Cowells Beach and to take special education students sailing to see their adopted beach from a new perspective.
